beautiful smileWhen you are getting cosmetic dentistry done, the last thing you want to do is wait for your new smile. Whether you had an accident that resulted in dental injury, or you just want to fix something you’ve never liked about your smile, it can be hard to wait. There are different procedures that fall under the cosmetic dentistry umbrella and each has its own time constraints. The most common cosmetic work that we do in the office are:

  • Dental implants
  • Bridges
  • Crowns
  • Smile Contouring
  • Teeth Whitening
  • Porcelain Veneers

Fortunately, there are general times that we can use to estimate how much time each procedure should take, if there are no major problems or obstacles.

Dental Implants

Implants are a great option for replacing missing or damaged teeth. It is a two-part process to install one in a patient’s mouth. The first step is to place a root in your gums for the crown to attach. Before we can attach the top part of the device, the bone must fuse and heal first to the root, which is a titanium screw. This part can take anywhere from three to six months, but generally does not require extra time if you do multiple implants at once.

The second portion is to put the porcelain crown in place, that has been made to fit the exact space in your mouth. It looks just like one of your natural teeth, so no one will even notice that your tooth isn’t real.

A bridge is used to fill gaps in teeth by using two permanent teeth on either side as posts. The device is made to specifically look like your other teeth, so the time it takes to complete a bridge is one to three weeks. The lab produces it based off molds taken in the office from your existing teeth. We do have to take time to prepare the two teeth used as posts, as well as cleaning the space before placing it. You can expect an hour to two hours for this other work.

When your tooth has become too weak to put a filling into or has a giant chip, a crown is a great option. It acts as a cap to place over the weak or damaged tooth. Putting a crown on a tooth requires filing the tooth to fit into the cap. This work is done usually in an hour and then a temporary crown is placed. You will need to come back to have your permanent crown put on once it arrives from the lab. Placing the permanent crown is fast- about ten to fifteen minutes.

Smile Contouring

As one of the fastest and easiest smile fixers, there are three parts we address when doing smile contouring. Each has its own individualized work process.

  • Teeth- repairing cracks, stains, or rounding the edges. This can be done in one visit usually, and won’t take your whole day.
  • Gums- even out gum lines, reduce gum tissue, or reshape the lines for a cleaner look. This is a fast fix as well.
  • Lips- fix blemishes or other issues around your lips.

Teeth Whitening

Daily food and drinks can stain your teeth, but we can fix it. Instant results are available from our in-office teeth whitening, with many patients seeing up to 10 shades whiter after their first visit. It takes only about an hour to do and the results will last a long time.

Porcelain Veneers

These thin laminate solutions correct several issues, including chips, cracks, discoloration, gaps, and misalignment. Most patients can get their veneers done quickly because all that is required is removing a thin layer of the front of the tooth. From there, the veneer is bonded and the patient enjoys some long-lasting results that make them feel confident in their smile again.

We Can Fix That

If you have something you are unhappy about with your smile, make an appointment today. We can go over your options for correcting the problems and give you a more specific time table.
